A bit of a show and tell …..

You might want a coffee……
It’s been a couple of weeks since I last blogged…..where does the time go?
First of all…..I am going to be a NooNoo (Nanna) again.
My daughter is expecting her third child in January and I am so excited about it. More quilts and sewing to happen once she finds out if its a boy or a girl.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have been busy doing ‘life’ things and also in the sewing department too… I have done more blocks for the Sampler BOM that a few of us are doing at Our Craft Forum
I have put these ones and the other ones I have done together into a quilt layout with EQ7 so I can start to get an idea with how I am going to put them all together.
The BOM is going until October this year and we started it in February which means that is 9 blocks. Each of us who joined in the BOM gave a pattern for a block from the Quilters Cache or other places and some of us have given more than one design, so we get to choose which blocks we want to sew up for that month. I have chosen to do a couple but mostly have done just the one. Since starting the BOM, I was only going to do a 9 block quilt…but since that, I have decided to do a 12 block quilt. So that means I can go thru the block choices and do extra ones.
I know the layout above is for 16 blocks but I can change it to 12 quite easily in the program EQ7. I just click on the Layout button and change it to 3 blocks across and 4 down and I then have 12 blocks.
So simple and I can change the placement of the blocks to suit the fabrics too.
Another fun quilt I am sewing is one made up of Granny Squares. This is what I want to make with the blocks of Granny Squares.
I am going to have all white for the borders and sashing and a striped edging.
My blocks are coming together nicely and I am really loving sewing these. Here is strips of little blocks sewn together waiting to be sewn into the block.
With all of mine I have done a yellow centre one on all of them and white ones around the outside. But there is no order for the rest of them as I love no order sometimes. Maybe the next one I do will be more co-ordinated.
Fee and Dawn were sewing these and then Dawn got me onto them as well. I love them and they are such fun to sew up and so easy. The tutorial for them can be found HERE
After looking at the pictures again, it has got me quite keen to sew up another lot for another quilt. It’s funny how that happens isn’t it? Does that happen to you? I know when one goes away for a retreat it recharges the batteries and going to sewing groups is the same. I don’t go to any sewing groups so I get recharged from blogging and looking at everyone’s creations and the main place I get my batteries recharged is Our Craft Forum as there are quite a few like minded ladies who pop in there everyday and chat about what they are doing and it’s like sitting in a group and catching up with each other in your pj’s as most times when I am on there it’s first thing in the morning and I haven’t got dressed yet lol. Someone said that Our Craft Forum wasn’t up and running again after the time it was down for maintenance etc.
Well it is up and running and even better than before and one doesn’t have to chat their heads off if they don't want to…..they can just pop in and read all the chatter or catch up on the swaps with just a quick …. ‘I am still alive’ comment. I always find it amusing when people spread silly rumours about things they presume are what is going on about things. Those sort of people are really only destroying themselves. Their falsehoods come back and bite them on the bum eventually. Anyway I could go on but I don't want to go into all that went on a few months ago with certain vicious people. Lowering myself to their standards just isn't me.
I have a few things waiting to be published soon and not only with Patchwork & Stitching from Express Publications but also Down Under Quilts from Creative Living Media and with Jenny in her upcoming magazine for this month.
I will give you all a bit of a look at what is coming.
AND….My husband Tony, has been creative also and he designed a quilt and then I sewed it and Natalie of The Quilting Bug quilted it for him.
That is being published also and he is very excited about that.
Quilters Companion magazine done a little article on Tony’s, Natalie’s and my combined efforts and that was exciting to see.
They also talked about my quilt that I designed but this one won’t be being published. Doesn’t his first ever quilt he designed look great?
So …..a few things happening here and you can bet your bottom dollar that a few more things will be happening down the track also. It’s all good.
I hope to get onto looking at everyone’s blogs very soon…I have missed you all! Told ya you might want to get a coffee…lol.
hugs to all……
Sewing and designing and gifts……
I have several shapes already cut and glued waiting for me to sew them on to make a Joseph’s Coat quilt. I got enough done using up all my scraps and then just wasn't too sure how I was going to sew them together.
Did I want to just use them for a border on a quilt? Did I want them arranged in a certain way? Well I loved this disappearing 4 to a 9 patch block (thanks Andie) and thought….well sewing several of these together I could then sew the shapes on to these and then have a lap quilt or in my case a quilt big enough to go over my cafe size kitchen table.
So into my EQ7 program on my computer I went and worked out how many blocks and their sizes and put in the fabric I was going to use and this is what I came up with.
I have sewn all the blocks and loved doing them….such fun!!! Now I am stitching the shapes onto these blocks. I am doing needle turn method..because I love it but I am sure blanket stitch could be used as well.
I sit at night times and while I listen to and sometimes watch television I stitch these down. Its a bit dangerous with all them pinned on but I needed to distribute all the shapes evenly over so that no two lots of fabrics were in the same section.
I found a new thrift shop the other day and got a bag of old vintage buttons….sorry didn't take a piccie of them and they are now in the storage jar. Also got this lovely doily for me to cut up and sew the sections onto my framed hexagons that I am doing. Although it is in good condition and so I might not cut it up yet. Should have got the one with the hole in it! lol.
I have made a couple of table runners and given them for presents. This one here went to an Aunt-in-Law in Czech…..she loved it!
I used my Go! Baby to cut out the flower shapes…..makes it so much easier than tracing and cutting out yourself!
This one went to my DIL over in WA for her birthday at the beginning of the month….she loved her table topper too.
I designed it in EQ7 and so my DIL has an original design. Plus she loves purple.
I loved designing it and loved sewing the Dresden plates and I even did fancy quilting on it.
Hope your sewing is going full steam ahead…
I have added a pattern in the Patterns To Purchase section up the top under my banner ….they are pdf patterns and if you want hard copies they will be available in my store soon. Plus if you are looking for those pegs like I used for my lace and trims I was able to get some and I will have a few packets available in my store soon. (just have to list them yet) Under the Notions section.
Hugs to all…..
Hear ye…..Hear ye!! EQ7 Giveaway
I really love using my EQ7 full program to design my quilts and different table runners and patterns. From designing these in EQ7 I am able to get exact measurements and know how much fabric I am going to need too.
I designed the Springtime quilt that Fresh Hope now has
- This is what I had in EQ7 done up and this is the finished quilt….
All the girls stitched their blocks and Dawn put the quilt together and the pattern was written up from EQ7 and is now available to purchase thru Fresh Hope. But of course you know all this.
A few other patterns that I have had published were designed in EQ7 and I really got to say ….I love this program!!
My Around The Christmas Tree pattern was designed in EQ7 too….
and I find that when I need to work out borders and blocks I put the design into EQ7 and let it work it out for me. So much easier than trying to figure out the maths. Never was any good at that in school. Now if someone had said…..Vicki, you need to learn maths and geometry because later on you will need to use it for patchwork then I might have enjoyed doing it way back then in school.
Much excitement !!
I have started a new BOM which I got from Block Central and
with a few other ladies from my Craft Forum we are going to sew these blocks together …you can read about it here too… It’s called A Sentimental Journey.
Anyway the instructions were for all the blocks but not the finishing instructions so as I have EQ7 to help me design blocks and quilts and just about anything I can do, I put the blocks into EQ7’s program and then added borders with the corner blocks like it is in the picture.
I have also made the quilt to the size of what Block Central said it is.
I also wanted to see what my choice of fabrics would look like in the quilt,
and so I loaded them up into EQ7 after I downloaded them from the Moda website and the ones that weren't listed there on Moda, I scanned and imported them into my fabric library.
I came up with this…
I am happy with the fabrics and really happy that I can do this with EQ7 as for me to sit down and colour in a graph paper with it all on just bores me to bits.
I will have some exciting news to tell you all soon…but for now its a secret. But you will love it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Another fabulous bit of news is that the delivery man came to my door yesterday and gave me a huge parcel.
I was so excited to get this parcel and couldn’t wait to get it inside so I could open it. But first I had to take a piccie of it.
When I opened it I was even more excited as my very own Go! Baby and 3 die sets with their cutting mats were inside!
I got three fabulous dies and I am blown away by these as they are just the biggest dies that I could imagine them to be. I will be playing with these later today and have an idea already…all I could think about when I woke up this morning was what I would make with them.
So Go! Baby…I love you already and cant wait to play with you.
Stay tuned for a tutorial and then more excitement! I can’t wait!!

Have you been and commented to hopefully win the My Memories Scrapbooking software from my post here?
