Sewing and designing and gifts……

I have several shapes already cut and glued waiting for me to sew them on to make a Joseph’s Coat quilt. I got enough done using up all my scraps and then just wasn't too sure how I was going to sew them together.

Capture1

Did I want to just use them for a border on a quilt? Did I want them arranged in a certain way? Well I loved this disappearing 4 to a 9 patch block (thanks Andie) and thought….well sewing several of these together I could then sew the shapes on to these and then have a lap quilt or in my case a quilt big enough to go over my cafe size kitchen table.

So into my EQ7 program on my computer I went and worked out how many blocks and their sizes and put in the fabric I was going to use and this is what I came up with.

Jacobs Coat with a twist

I have sewn all the blocks and loved doing them….such fun!!! Now I am stitching the shapes onto these blocks. I am doing needle turn method..because I love it but I am sure blanket stitch could be used as well.

I sit at night times and while I listen to and sometimes watch television I stitch these down. Its a bit dangerous with all them pinned on but I needed to distribute all the shapes evenly over so that no two lots of fabrics were in the same section.

I found a new thrift shop the other day and got a bag of old vintage buttons….sorry didn't take a piccie of them and they are now in the storage jar. Also got this lovely doily for me to cut up and sew the sections onto my framed hexagons that I am doing. Although it is in good condition and so I might not cut it up yet. Should have got the one with the hole in it! lol.

I have made a couple of table runners and given them for presents. This one here went to an Aunt-in-Law in Czech…..she loved it!

I used my Go! Baby to cut out the flower shapes…..makes it so much easier than tracing and cutting out yourself!

This one went to my DIL over in WA for her birthday at the beginning of the month….she loved her table topper too.

I designed it in EQ7 and so my DIL has an original design. Plus she loves purple.

I loved designing it and loved sewing the Dresden plates and I even did fancy quilting on it.

Hope your sewing is going full steam ahead…

I have added a pattern in the Patterns To Purchase section up the top under my banner ….they are pdf patterns and if you want hard copies they will be available in my store soon. Plus if you are looking for those pegs like I used for my lace and trims I was able to get some and I will have a few packets available in my store soon. (just have to list them yet) Under the Notions section.

Hugs to all…..

Reading…….

About 3 weeks ago, I was the lucky winner of a giveaway on Our Craft Forum and won this fabulous book from Sandy.

book and doily

Sandy wrapped the book in that gorgeous doily as she knows I love them. Thanks Sandy!

I am enjoying reading the book too.

I found this gorgeous little jug in a local thrift shop, that's another thing I love….old jugs!

Little jug

Another thing I love is tins. There are some fabulous tins out there and when I was doing Folk Art & Decorative painting, I would paint them if they were plain janes.

This one is a thin one but a long one. Cheeky mice!

Annie Langs Designs (2)

This one isn't really a little tin but an old metal hat box.

Jo Sonja Designs (3)

I loved painting this watering can for a lady……she loved it too.

I should get my paints out again and finish off the UFO’s I have that are waiting to be finished.

Hugs to all….

Delightful lovelies….

I was delighted to find these pegs in a store the other day and thought they would look lovely all wrapped up in their lace, ribbon and ricrac dresses.

DPP_0005 (Medium)

I love lace, ribbon and ricrac and before I had them just rolled up and kept in a bag. Now it is all tidy and neat.

DPP_0009 (Medium)

When I was in Tassie I got some little teeny tiny pegs too….see the ones in the front row? They are great for those small amounts of ribbon and lace.

Do you love old jewellery? I do and I was privileged to get some the other day from my lovely aunt. These are all clip on earrings and I wont wear them but I will treasure them. I seen on Fee’s blog how she made some fabulous fabric flowers from her Go! Baby and sewed some gorgeous embellishments onto them and is going to use them on her future bags or different things she sews. Great idea Fee.

I was lucky enough to have the little china box that the earrings came in. I do love ‘old’ things and I really need a great big house to have everything on display.

Some things……..

Do you love doily's? I do and this one I got in a quaint little shop at Sovereign Hill near Ballarat in Victoria when I went there the other day.

DPP_0001 (Medium)

I love birds too…..and this one I decided needed a place to sit and ponder about what is going on.

I think it needs an eye……cant see much without one.

I got quite a few of the little jars it is sitting on so I might have to make some more.

Hope you are having a great weekend

Yay its Spring!!!!!!….I so love Spring with all the trees and flowers that spring up and shoot out their new buds. Love it!!

003

Here we go……the last of the

Out Of The Box BOM blocks.

I hope you have enjoyed this journey with Dawn and I as much as we have enjoyed it. We were so excited to have given you these blocks and even more excited to see yours done. Looking forward to seeing everyone's completed and put together.

So put them up in the Flickr group.

In a couple of weeks Dawn and I will have our instructions available for putting the blocks together and our big reveal of the completed BOMs. I love how they both have turned out….and I am sure you will too.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I went visiting a local Op-Shop the other day and found these darling doily's…..I just had to have them.
I do love doily's and I have started my collection of them to make these fabulous hexies! You will have to go to Roz’ blog and have a look.
http://rozhearts.blogspot.com/2011/06/another-post.html
I just love it to bits! It is so like the Framed Hexagons I have been swapping on the forum but different and so now I will be going thru the Op-Shops to find more to make these Framed Hexagons.
Have a great Spring day
Last week a few of us Gumnut sisters decided to have a little swap amongst us. We used Fiona’s gorgeous pattern ‘Florentine Doily’ and then we all got a name to send our doily to. We had such fun and I got Joy’s gawjus doily
May 2010 157[3]
and Dawn got mine.
003[12]
I love these doilys and Fiona has the pattern available still from her blog.
Also later on today the Among the Gum Trees will have a freebie for June. It’s our lovely Dawn’s turn to give a special project to everyone, so pop on over and have a read of the newsletter and grab the pattern for June….its Ab Fab! I love it.
A date has been set for my son’s wedding! Yay….I am so excited and so we are off to Western Australia in October for a couple of weeks for his wedding. I can hardly wait, but I have to as I got the wedding quilt to finish.
Yesterday I was in a bit of a tizz, because I cut out all the triangle shapes from the two fabrics and sewed them together to form the next border and it was wayyyyyyy too big!!
What???? yes…I had the right amount of triangles….yes they were all around the right way……Mmmm…. I then unpicked them all…..some call it reverse sewing!
Then I cut the shape a bit smaller and recut all the triangles.
Sewed one lot together and Yay…\o/ \o/ happy dance happened!
It fit across the quilt just right! The magazine that it was published in, printed the shape too big.
Anyway its all go go again. That episode took a whole day…Grrrrrrrrrrr. Actually I didn’t swear, so how good am I?
Hugs to all………Vicki
